We are pleased today to have Jamie Yeats join us today to update us on Shelter Box.
President John Kowalski rang us in on time today and we were pleased to have fellow Rotarian Jamie Yeats with us to update the Canton Rotary Club us on Shelter Box.  First a few announcements:
  • Don't forget that District Conference is the beginning of May and be reminded to please bring in your food donation items for the District food drive as discussed the end of April.
  • The club grant application is due May 30th.
  • Student Interviews for the Canton Plymouth Grants for 2018 is next Thursday.
  • Sarah spoke to the club and provided some highlights of the last Assembly meeting and we also discussed some new possible program suggestions.
  • Remember, the next meeting is at Bill Brown's Independence Village of Plymouth.
Jamie gave us a brief review of the Shelter Box's history and then continued on to illustrate some of the many pressing world Shelter Box needs of 2018.  This included new Iraq safe havens, Syria civilian displacement, new developments in the Lake Chad Basin, heavy storm damage in the Philippines, and more.  As current demands have been extreme this year, Shelter Box has also tried respond to the needs with more diversification in it's approaches.  This included items like new school kits for refugee camps to specialized tools for warm climates for example.
We thanked Jamie for joining us and giving the club an update.  The club also donated $1000 today to Shelter Box for 2018 which will purchase one completely furnished shelter box for a displaced family.
